Just got on the computer and went straight to Yahoo to check my messages and there on the ticker thingy was a picture of LeAnn Rimes. She looked beautiful. Bitch. I have this total love/hate relationship with her. I like her singing. I sometimes like how she looks, she has on and off days like anyone, just because she is all country superstar doesn't mean she won't have those 'some days she looks like crap and some days she looks amazing' days. Plus, she totally reminds me of Big Daddy's ex. *sighss* Bet she would looooove to hear that, I mean really that is like a kick ass compliment. Really it is. Truly! Okay, back to love/hate relationship with Ms. Rimes, or Mrs. Eddie Cibrion...that is a reason I can't stand her. The whole situation of how they "fell in love". Blahhhh Blah Blah. *coughs*homewrecker*coughs* Okay, anyway onto what she even has to do with my blogpost anyway. The reason she was on the ticker thingy-ma-bob was her weight. She is ultimate skinny. Whooooo gives a flying leap?!?! Really?? THIS bull has to be on the Yahoo ticker?!? So the eff what?! She is skinny, she is skinnier than she was a few years ago. She started eating healthy AND working out, is THAT NOT what everyone in the damn medical profession wants us to do??? It would be different if she was 85 lbs. and her teeth and hair were falling out, but she is not. Leave her alone.
She's skinny. Fine.
This whole thing just got me thinking to a few thoughts that I have struggled with in the past. Who EVER made it okay for people to say anything about skinny people??? WhoEVER said it was alright to tell a person they were skinny just because they are?! If any of you are thinking..."Isn't that a good thing?! What the heck is wrong with telling someone they are skinny??" Well, I am going to lay it all out for you.
If you know me, I am skinny. Always have been. Except when I was PG with THEBOY#1 and I had toxemia or when I was PG with THEBOY#2 and they were pumping me full of steroids. Ohhh good times....
I have had people say to me "You are too skinny!" I have had some say "You are sooooo skinny." I have had some say "Do you ever eat?!" Sometimes it doesn't bother me, other times it does. What gives anyone the right to say this to me?? When did it ever become socially acceptable to say that to thinner people. I mean really. Come on people, don't you think I know I'm skinny? Do you really think, hell I'm gonna tell her she's skinny it oughta make her day. Well, it doesn't. It actually makes me feel small, and no not in a "skinnier" way either!
I KNOW none of you would EVER think of going up to a heavier person and saying "You are too fat!" or "You are soooo fat." or "Don't you ever QUIT eating?" I know I would NEVER EVER do that. EVER. So, next time there is a discussion on how to make our kids not worry about what they look like or how not to make them self conscious of their weight. Think of it this way, just because someone is "skinny" doesn't give anyone the right to say something to them about it. Especially when we are trying our damndest to make it all about loving who we are, whether we are fat or skinny or in-between. Remember that the next time you want to comment to a teenage girl how skinny she is, ask yourself would I be saying something to her if she was heavier?!
Why not just change our wording all together. If you think someone looks nice or beautiful, whether they are skinny or heavier, say "You look soooo pretty today!" Or "That dress is really perfect for you!" Or "I love that shirt on you, it's like it was made for you!" THAT is how you make someone feel good about the way they look. It has nothing to do with our size. It has EVERYTHING to do with us. Our individual whole selves! =)
Me, I never get he skinny comments...well because I am not skinny, lol.
ReplyDeleteHowever, Aubrey is a skinny mini and I always have people telling me she is sooooo small. I often hear, "was she a premie?" For a while I got extremely offended about it, but I have learned to just smile and say, "I know isn't she so cute," and when they ask if she was premie I simply say nope.
People never go up to fat babies and say....."WOAH, thats a HUGE baby you have got!"
I know not the same as what you are talking about, but along the same lines.
*ROFL* Gf...you really do crack me up. I totally understand what you're saying; I've heard my super-skinny daughter complain about this for years. I was thin, but being a farm girl, I was also muscular & strong. *shrug* But I've seen it really wound my daughter, so I have to agree with you. People really do need to think before they speak!
ReplyDeleteBut the rest of it.....OMGoodness, gf. Your self-censor buzzer must've been going crazy! *giggle* You wrote "in the moment," huh? Silly girl. Gotta love ya!
Yes Amanda people do say ohh what a chubby/ chuncky baby you have. As far as babies go the comments fly weither skinny or chuncky. But I agree why not say how good you look.
ReplyDeleteSam j.
They might say chubby or chunky, but they dont usually say fat! To me FAT=SKINNY in the sense of how they sound or mean when said to others.
ReplyDeleteChubby, Chunky.....they do not equal fat!
Between these to phrases, which would make you more mad?
"What a chubby little boy!"
"What a fat little boy!"
"Your baby is soo skinny!"
"Your baby is soo danty!"
Its not different with babies, children, or adults. In any case it hurts or offends someone!
This is my own honest opinion.
